Account Settings

Manage your FictionMaker.ai account from the settings area. Access your account settings by clicking your profile icon in the top right corner and selecting “Account Settings.”

Profile

Your profile contains your personal information and preferences.

Basic Information

Display Name

The name shown to other users in collaborative projects. This can be your real name, a pen name, or any identifier you prefer.

Email Address

Your primary email for:

  • Account login
  • Password reset
  • Billing notifications
  • Product updates (if subscribed)

To change your email:

  1. Go to Profile settings
  2. Enter your new email address
  3. We’ll send a verification link to the new address
  4. Click the link to confirm the change
  5. Your old email remains active until verification completes

Profile Picture

Upload an image to personalize your account. This appears:

  • In your profile
  • In collaborative project member lists
  • On comments and activity feeds
  • On content you create (if attribution is enabled)

Supported formats: JPG, PNG, GIF. Maximum size: 5MB. Square images work best.

Notification Preferences

Control what emails you receive:

Account Notifications (cannot be disabled)

  • Password changes
  • Security alerts
  • Billing confirmations

Product Notifications

  • New feature announcements
  • Tips and tutorials
  • Survey invitations

Collaboration Notifications

  • Project invitations
  • Comments on your content
  • Mentions by collaborators
  • Project activity summaries

Marketing Communications

  • Newsletter
  • Special offers
  • Partner content

Configure notification frequency:

  • Immediate: As events happen
  • Daily digest: One summary per day
  • Weekly digest: One summary per week
  • None: Disable (where allowed)

Display Preferences

Theme

  • Light mode
  • Dark mode
  • System preference (follows your device)

Language Select your preferred interface language.

Date/Time Format Choose how dates and times display throughout the app.

Default Project View Set your preferred default view when opening projects.

Security

Keep your account secure with these settings.

Password

Requirements

  • Minimum 12 characters
  • Mix of uppercase and lowercase
  • At least one number
  • At least one special character

Changing Your Password

  1. Go to Security settings
  2. Click “Change Password”
  3. Enter your current password
  4. Enter and confirm your new password
  5. Click “Update Password”

You’ll be signed out of all other sessions after a password change.

Forgot Your Password?

  1. Go to the sign-in page
  2. Click “Forgot Password”
  3. Enter your email address
  4. Check your email for a reset link
  5. Click the link and create a new password

Reset links expire after 1 hour for security.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Add an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step when signing in.

Setup Options

  • Authenticator app (recommended): Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, etc.
  • SMS codes: Backup option if you can’t use an authenticator

Enabling 2FA

  1. Go to Security settings
  2. Click “Enable Two-Factor Authentication”
  3. Choose your method
  4. For authenticator apps:
    • Scan the QR code with your app
    • Enter the verification code shown
  5. Save your backup codes in a secure location
  6. Confirm setup

Backup Codes When you enable 2FA, you receive one-time backup codes. Store these securely. If you lose access to your authenticator, use a backup code to sign in and reset 2FA.

Each backup code can only be used once. Generate new backup codes if you run low.

Disabling 2FA

  1. Go to Security settings
  2. Click “Disable Two-Factor Authentication”
  3. Enter your password to confirm
  4. 2FA is removed from your account

Active Sessions

View and manage where you’re signed in:

Session Information

  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • Browser or app
  • Location (approximate, based on IP)
  • Last active time

Managing Sessions

  • Click “Sign Out” on any session to end it
  • Click “Sign Out All Other Sessions” to end everything except your current session

Review this regularly. If you see unfamiliar sessions, sign them out and change your password.

Connected Accounts

Manage social login connections:

Google

  • Sign in with your Google account
  • Link to enable Google sign-in for an existing account
  • Unlink to require password sign-in

Apple

  • Sign in with your Apple ID
  • Link to enable Apple sign-in for an existing account
  • Unlink to require password sign-in

You must have either a password or at least one connected account to access your account.

Subscription & Billing

Manage your plan, payments, and billing history.

Current Plan

View your active subscription:

  • Plan name and tier
  • Monthly credit allocation
  • Credits used this period
  • Credits remaining
  • Renewal date

Changing Your Plan

Upgrading

Upgrades take effect immediately:

  1. Click “Change Plan”
  2. Select a higher tier
  3. Confirm the change
  4. Pay the prorated difference for the remaining billing period
  5. Your new credit allocation is available immediately

Downgrading

Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing term:

  1. Click “Change Plan”
  2. Select a lower tier
  3. Confirm the change
  4. Continue using your current plan until renewal
  5. New plan and credit allocation start at next billing cycle

Canceling

To cancel your subscription:

  1. Click “Cancel Subscription”
  2. Optionally tell us why (helps us improve)
  3. Confirm cancellation
  4. Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period
  5. After expiration, you move to the free tier

Cancellation does not provide a refund for the current period.

Payment Methods

Adding a Payment Method

  1. Click “Add Payment Method”
  2. Enter your card details or connect PayPal
  3. Save the method

Managing Payment Methods

  • Set a default method for automatic renewals
  • Remove methods you no longer use
  • Update expiring cards before renewal

Supported Methods

  • Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover)
  • Debit cards
  • PayPal

Billing History

View all past transactions:

  • Date
  • Description
  • Amount
  • Status
  • Invoice/receipt link

Downloading Invoices

For each transaction:

  1. Click the invoice link
  2. View the invoice in your browser
  3. Download as PDF
  4. Print if needed

Invoices include all information typically needed for expense reports or tax purposes.

Credit Usage

Track your AI credit consumption:

Usage Dashboard

  • Credits used this period
  • Credits remaining
  • Daily usage graph
  • Usage by feature type (text, image, audio, automation)

Usage Alerts Set notifications when usage reaches certain thresholds:

  • 50% used
  • 75% used
  • 90% used
  • 100% used (hard limit reached)

Usage Details View individual credit transactions:

  • Timestamp
  • Feature used
  • Credits consumed
  • Entity affected

Organizations

Organizations let you collaborate with teams on shared projects.

Personal vs. Organization Accounts

Personal Account

  • Your individual account
  • Projects you own personally
  • Your own credit allocation

Organization Accounts

  • Shared team workspace
  • Projects owned by the organization
  • Shared credit pool (based on organization plan)
  • Centralized billing

You can belong to multiple organizations while maintaining your personal account.

Joining Organizations

Via Invitation

  1. Receive an invitation email
  2. Click the invitation link
  3. Accept the invitation
  4. You’re added to the organization

Via Request If the organization allows join requests:

  1. Navigate to the organization’s page
  2. Click “Request to Join”
  3. Wait for an admin to approve

Organization Roles

Different roles have different permissions:

Member

  • Access shared projects (based on project permissions)
  • Use organization credit pool
  • View organization settings

Admin

  • Everything members can do
  • Invite and remove members
  • Change member roles
  • Manage project access
  • View billing information

Owner

  • Everything admins can do
  • Manage billing and subscription
  • Transfer or delete the organization
  • Promote members to admin

Switching Contexts

To switch between personal and organization contexts:

  1. Click your profile icon
  2. See your personal account and all organizations
  3. Click the one you want to work in
  4. The interface updates to that context

Projects, credits, and settings are specific to the selected context.

Creating an Organization

To create a new organization:

  1. Go to Account Settings
  2. Click “Create Organization”
  3. Enter organization name and details
  4. Choose a plan for the organization
  5. Set up billing
  6. Invite team members

Organization plans are billed separately from personal plans.

Managing Your Organization

If you’re an admin or owner:

Members

  • View all members and their roles
  • Invite new members via email
  • Remove members
  • Change member roles

Projects

  • View all organization projects
  • Set default access levels
  • Archive or delete projects

Billing (owners only)

  • Manage organization subscription
  • Update payment methods
  • View billing history
  • Download organization invoices

Data & Privacy

Control your data and privacy settings.

Data Export

Download a copy of all your data:

What’s Included

  • All projects you own
  • All entities and content
  • Uploaded media files
  • Account information
  • Activity history

How to Export

  1. Go to Data & Privacy settings
  2. Click “Request Data Export”
  3. We’ll prepare your export (may take a few hours for large accounts)
  4. Receive an email when ready
  5. Download the ZIP file (link expires after 7 days)

Export includes machine-readable formats (JSON) and human-readable formats (Markdown).

Individual Project Export

To export a single project:

  1. Open the project
  2. Go to Project Settings
  3. Click “Export Project”
  4. Choose format options
  5. Download immediately or receive via email

Data Deletion

Deleting Individual Content Delete specific projects, entities, or media through the normal interface. Deleted content is recoverable for 30 days, then permanently deleted.

Deleting Your Account To permanently delete your account and all data:

  1. Go to Data & Privacy settings
  2. Click “Delete Account”
  3. Read the warnings carefully
  4. Enter your password
  5. Type “DELETE” to confirm
  6. Your account is scheduled for deletion

What Happens

  • Immediate: You’re signed out and can’t sign back in
  • 30 days: Your data is retained in case you change your mind. Contact support to cancel deletion.
  • After 30 days: All data is permanently and irreversibly deleted

Before Deleting

  • Export any data you want to keep
  • Notify collaborators if you own shared projects
  • Transfer organization ownership if you’re the sole owner

Privacy Controls

Profile Visibility Choose who can see your profile:

  • Public: Anyone can see your display name and picture
  • Collaborators only: Only people you work with
  • Private: Hidden from everyone

Activity Visibility Control whether collaborators see your activity:

  • Show when I’m online
  • Show my recent activity
  • Show my edit history

AI Training Choose whether your content may be used to improve AI models:

  • Opt in: Help improve AI for everyone
  • Opt out: Your content is never used for training
